For some reason, probably of age, all my media on my psp have incredibly low volume. audible by all means but uncomfortably low. If the limiter of the volume is software, surely there must be a way round it via flash perhaps. If its a hardware one, what can i do to get around this?

its both software and hardware, there is a limiter in the system settings and a normalizer but besides that sony also doesn't have it maxed anyway and if you have custom firmware their are homebrew mp3 and flac players like lightmp3 that can boost the volume but it gets distorted because of the hardware aspect.
