Hiya,

I'm new to video editing and after reading the below link it seems that essentially all videos have only a few codecs built within them and the major variance is the container (the extention). so dvds/blu-ray/mp4s/avis/mpegs are all variant containers of different codec versions, ie h263 for mpeg2 (dvd) or h264 for avi/mp4. The below site explains this clearly:

http://gizmodo.com/5093670/giz-explains-...ou-need-to-know

so what i'm wanting is video editing software that is able to frame by frame edit any of the variant containers (avi, mp4, voc, mt2s) of the very few codecs (h262, h263, h264)...

ive used in the past VideoReDo for editing mpeg2 dvds and avidemux for some avi's and flv's but there are so many videos/docos i have on my computer that i'm unable to clip/crop/edit because the lack of support for the particular codec and container the video uses.

is there ANY video editing software that simply edits ALL video codecs and containers. considering FFDShow and its availability to decode to play any video in media player classic the function in terms of programming shouldn't be that difficult. so what, if any, program should i be looking at???

ps: I've tried programs like MediaCoder to try and re-encode particular formatted videos to a format that Avidemux or VideoReDo likes but havent found success with ALL video formats. the voice/audio sync is often dodgey etc etc.

hopefully this can get some discussion going or point others like myself in the right direction. cheers

this is a really great forum. so many prompt detailed and helpful responses. the help leads me in the right direction so i can research it myself independantly further. ive noticed this with almost all the forum posts that people post.

its really great to have this centralised locale for people to post about technical and software related issues and have such a great community to assist people with some of their technical problems.

keep up the great work
