I have custom firmare 3.71 m33-4.

My psp stopped working a while ago, then i read maybe i should try putting it on the ac adaptor without the battery or memory stick in. And it turned on and goes to recovery mode.

What do i need to do to make it work without the adaptor and with the memory stick in?

Try it with the battery in and memory stick out. Same?
It may be the battery and not the memory stick. Test each alone to check.

If it's the battery, maybe your battery is in TOOL mode for whatever reason.
If it's the memory card, try backing up your card on your PC, then format it and try again.

If that doesn't work, maybe your memory card slot is shorted?

If it's neither of those, then I don't really know.
