Is there any benefit too this?

what im asking is does it take strain of the drive or the laser? any benefit.

You can't put games on the 360 HDD and play off of that... Well... You can, but you need to have the disc in the system when doing this.

So if that's what you mean, I have Gears2 installed on the HDD, and my system still works fine since the release!

The benefits I can think of are:

1. Less laser wear, especially if you play a title consistently.

2. Less noise from the DVD drive, also it results in a little less heat from the console.

The only time the disk has to be in the DVD drive is for the initial launching of the game. After that it's played exclusively from the hard drive.

However, since the console is designed to reset back to the dashboard upon ejecting of the tray you have to keep the DVD in the system while playing.
