Hey guys ive allways had a problem with my Utorent and that is when i DL a torrent ill have a very poor dl speed (constantly fluctuating between 5kb/s and 27 kb/s) even on a a torrent with good seeds. The icon on the bottom is allways orange even though ive try'd Portforwarding and Static IP's etc.

P.S I've had a few speed tests done online and they average about 360 kbs so i should be able to get allright speeds shouldnt i ?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your port isn't open..simple as that. Perhaps following the torrents site settings guide will prove better (this is often the better way to ensure a good connection) or maybe this one....

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/utorrent_guide.cfm

If you are not already using Peerguardian2..then you should be. Anything that helps mask your internet file type usage and address (from either ISP's or certain other entities) can't be a bad thing to do.

Some ISP's will throttle or maybe even stop torrent traffic when detected. With Utorrent take particular notice of the port you want to use and the box that enables this to be randomised each time you use it. Follow the guides and see what you come up with.

A green light..is a good light..both for you and your peers.

Cheers.

Disable UPnP at options>preferences>connection, use a port over 10,000, check for your ISP here: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs there are other's too. Have you even got a router, don't need a static ip if not and check for your modem at port forward, some need forwarding as well. Not related to NAT but take this speed test on various day's and time's to get a good average and select the figure closest to your upload rate and set it at options>speed guide>connection type: http://www.speedtest.net/ unless you already have. Your speed seem's awfully low, is that kb or kB, what's the test show, it's in kb?

Hi ty for the help; yes i do have a router as im on wireless, (it's a Belkin F5d7230-4). Ive did the speed test and got 0.43 MB/s for DL speed and 0.09 mb/s upload speed and In UTORRENT im gettin between 10 and 25 kB/s. i disabled the upnp but not much difference. is ther a problem with the actual modem not the router ? and should i change the settins on the modem if possible ?

Don't touch the modem unless you see it here and you have to port forward your router and maybe set a static ip address as well: http://www.portforward.com/english/route...routerindex.htm Click on your router, then program and follow the direction's. In connection type, select the number closest to 90 kb and utorrent set's your rate for you. Either my math is wrong or I'd be calling your ISP about those speed's. (check for your modem too at port forward but very few need to be touched) Connecting directly to the router may help. Edit: actually, what kind of connection speed is your ISP plan supposed to give and is that Cable or DSL?

Is this the guide you followed for your router: http://www.portforward.com/english/route...-4/Utorrent.htm Is this the modem: http://www.portforward.com/english/route...36/Utorrent.htm And a static ip address guide: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm Even at that, your maximum DL speed in utorrent will be around 50 KB, what ISP are you with and what type of plan, someone may know if they throttle and that speed seem's awfully low? Some ISP's that throttle don't in low peak time's like 1:00 AM - 6:00 AM.

12 G is a pretty low cap too, half a dozen file's to a 1-1 ratio plus surfing and you'd probably be over it but I wonder about that download speed, .43 mb is about 440 kb, don't you find surfing quite slow? I'd give them a call and see what plan you're on (don't mention torrent's and they won't think much of a speedtest unless it's their own), sound's like dial up. As to torrenting, sound's like they are throttling but there may have been an error somewhere, there are a lot of thing's need doing. 27 KB actually isn't bad when you consider your max, I know utorrent was giving me a red light when I knew, for sure, that everything was fine. You could check at Shield's Up with utorrent open and a custom port check to be sure. Otherwise, try overnight and see if thing's pick up. Just curious, are you using Vista and, if so, what version?

What say's your network connection is fine, utorrent, and you get a green light at option's>speed guide. Then you're set and it's just a function of seed's and peer's, try a torrent here and let it run 15 minute's or so, should give good speed's, 3.1 seem's good right now: http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/
