I have a HP Slimline s3600f as seen here. The BIOS does not support booting to USB and there are no BIOS updates that I could find. My computer does not have a floppy drive so is there any other way to get it to boot from the USB Drive so I can flash my BenQ?
I have ran into problem after problem trying to get everything together.
Also, according the the link above, my computer has the VIA VT6308S controller chip. Will that work with flashing the drive?
And I posted this in another thread, but does DosFlash 16 or 32 save the key for you on your desktop or somewhere that you can get to it, I don't want to have a bad flash and then not have my key to go back to the original.
Well even though I did not get any replies I figured out what to do
I figured I'd post what I did as it may help others with the same problem.
My problem was I couldn't use Jungle Flasher because I have Vista 64 bit so therefore I had to make a bootdisk. My computer, like most new computers, does not have a floppy drive so I had to make the bootdisk on a USB flash drive.
My next problem was my updated BIOS did not have the option to boot from USB or Removable Devices. The program "Plop" does not support writing so I could not use it to boot into Dosflash.
It may seem simple and stupid, but everyone tells you to simply go to BIOS and choose boot priority to be USB first. If thats not an option, you may, and this is a big if, but you may be able to press "esc" at the load screen where you would normally hit *key* to go into your BIOS setup. At least on my computer, it will take you to a separate Boot Menu where your flash drive will show up(if plugged in obviously).
Don't know if this will apply to others as obviously I can only test on mine right now, but it did work for me and others might be experiencing the same problem!
does the splash screen say " Press Esc For a one time boot menu"? Anyway there is a mod disc(CD) that you can boot to. Another option is usb floppy, they are very cheap. I know you stated it won't boot to usb FDD but usually the bios can see usb floppy.
Well it says "press esc for boot menu". I couldn't find anything on the boot cd, I downloaded the Plop program that would let me boot USB but wouldn't write to USB so it was useless for me. I was just trying to get out the cheapest way possible(I stated on another post that I was laid off and that was my main motivation for doing this mod). I am about broke all the time so the cheaper the better. That is why I didn't want to buy a floppy drive.
Thanks for the info though, the more I learn the more I might be able to help someone else or remedy a problem I might have in the future.
