I have a US Wii with a 3.3U firmware with the HBC and I wanted to install the Check Mii Out and the Everybody Votes Channel. But I cant dl it from the Wii Shop Channel as it asks me to update my firmware first. Is there any way to do this with wads?

It may be worth checking out this tutorial to update to 4.0, just in case you want to keep all of the functionality with HBC that you are likely using:

4.0 will also give you the ability to move Channels over to and run from an SD card, which is very handy.

So if you use the IOS60/IOS61, then it basically fakes your firmware so you can access the wii shop channel?

As far as 4.0 is concern if you have installed the HBC and the cios7 or above prior, it will still work. The added functionality only is you can move the WAD channel to SD card and launch from the SD.

"So if you use the IOS60/IOS61, then it basically fakes your firmware so you can access the wii shop channel? "

The IOS60/IOS61 and shopping is the official release from nintendo, so you are just upgrading the Wii shopping channel that was in your Wii(ios50/ios51), just like the IOS50/IOS51 in Rev 3.4. If you upgrade to 4.0 using nintendo website this will be re-installed again using the same file.

Again the IOS60/61 has a different version could be EU , US or Japan. So download/install at your own risk...

HBC still works on 4.0, provided (like fiber said) that you follow the instructions and make sure you have certain things installed PRIOR to updating to 4.0.

4.0 is only necessary if you want to load channels from an SD card. (Previously you could backup data to them, but not physically load games, etc. from the SD card.)

To clarify what fiber said, the IOS is just a file, not a full firmware upgrade. By manually installing the IOS, you can upgrade/reinstall the Wii Shop Channel to the latest version.

Hope this helps.

stupid wads I install in my wii won't play from sd, it says failure to launch. and it won't let me move them back to the wii once I move them to the sd card. If I have them on both the wii and the sd card they will load from the wii. Did I do something wrong?
