the other day I got out several of my old ps1 games and found that my ps2 console would not recognize them. one game wouldn't register at all and the other game would appear as an audio cd. both games have been played previously on this very console, so I am at a lost as to the change now. Has anyone had this issue and is there a way to fix it short of replacing the games?
Well, I had this issue with both my PS2 (often) and my PS3 (just once, and it was actually kind of funny).
But with the PS2, I believe it might have to do with your laser. How old is your PS2? If it's as old as mine was before I recycled it (recycled? Yes, and it was pretty cool seeing my PS2 continue its life after death... anyway), then the laser must be pretty worn out and might need replacing.
And I doubt it's an issue with your CDs. My discs were in pristine condition - Tetris World and Marvel Vs. Capcom, and they both play perfectly on my PS3 minus the one hiccup I mentioned before. After I tweaked with my PS2's internals for a bit (specifically messing with the... the laser mount? I forget), I managed to get it to read PS1 discs again.
Anyway. That's just me. Hope it helps a bit, though.
that may well be the issue. it's one of the old thick consoles and the disks looked to be in good order. the fact that it would play some and not others was confusing, however that might just point to it being the laser even more. Thanks.
