I have an avi file that I want to burn to a dvd or to SVCD, It wont play on my DVD player when I burned it. When I try to convert it to DVD or SVCD it say it will take 98 hours! I cant wait that long but I want to see my movie on my TV Need help!

what mpegencoder are you using??? and also how fast is the computer your using to encode???
it seems to me the encoder your using is miscalculating the actual size of the AVI you have
this can be fixed if you get back to me and answer the questions cause no conversion(even a 3hr movie) takes 98hours to encode, even on my P.O.S p2 350

p2 1ghz?? i thought they stop at 450-500 ghz with the p2 unless you meant p3. anyways final questions, how long is the movie and is tmpge reading the file correctly??? if its not reading the file correctly goto source range and set ur start frame and end frame
on my piece of shit it takes about 15-18hrs to encode a 2hr long movie to SVCD, half that when i convert to VCD, reason for that is the resolution is greater therefore takes longer to process, but 98hrs is a joke
also you must convert the audio of your AVI file to wav for tmpge to process it properly(you wont have any sound if you dont convert it) thats if the audio is compressed, which it most probably is
anywayz get back to me m8 so we can sort this shit out

Ok P3 your right now the the question that I have is my movie 2-3 hours depending on the movie but I'm converting to DVD and I'm getting pauses and all so the quality is realy bad.
Is that because I'm going from AVI to DVD? Should I go From AVI to SVCD for better Quality? and what size should I convert it too?
It takes me about 12-13 hours now so is that about right? Also is that the best software out there?
My sound is fine it's the picture that is mest-up.
One more question should I use DVD or SVCD? each file ranges from 200 mb to 450 mb.

the reason that ur getting pauses is that ur probably converting ur file to a different framerate, you must encode the file ur using to the framerate it already has(so if ur source is 29.97fps, then NTSC would be the framerate it uses, if its 23.976fps then ntscfilm is the framerate it uses, and last if ur file is 25fps then PAL is it framerate) the easiest way to find this out is to use a program called 'g-spot codec information' which tells you everything.
As for the quality issue go to motion search pecision and use either high quality or highest quality, this will produce a much better defined output
You can decide for yourself what format you want(dvd or svcd) but if ur resolution is below say 580x350 then SVCD would be the better option as the vertical and horizontal for dvd(720x480ntsc) would cause your picture to lose abit more quality than you'd like because it has to stretch ur file to that resolution(therefore quality loss), svcd(480x480ntsc) would give a more detailed sharper image cause it doesnt have to stretch the picture out(lower resolution than ur source will not result in quality loss), they both use mpeg-2 compression its just the resolution thats different. And yes tmpge is an ideal program for this.
12-13 hours on ur system sounds about right(i thought you may be able to do it faster than that) but yeah that sounds about right
oh 1 last thing with SVCD your'll only be able to fit about 50 minutes on a cdr so a 2-3hr movie would have to be split over 3-4 discs, but all that can be done after the coversion

So I have gotten it to work after reading your last reply I found out that the movie fps is 14.985 and the video size is 352 X 240.
So I had to make it a VCD.
My question is If I make it an SVCD will video and sound mess up?
What Is a good aspect ratio? mine is set to 1:1 VGA. What is Aspect ration?
when compressed it makes it into 1 gig or more what is a good burn program so I can use CD-R(W)

well 352x240 is already NTSC standard for a VCD, but your framerate will cause you grief, i'd set it to ntscfilm(as its the closest standard framerate) but in saying so tmpge cannot do a properly framerate conversion meaning although the audio should still be in-sync the video will look slightly jumpy in parts, this cant be helped(set it to 1:1 full screen keep aspect ratio)
converting to SVCD with resolution like that is not worth the extra time it takes to encode, you'll get the same if not a better results using vcd
you'll have to split the file into 2, to spread it over 2discs if its over 700mb(80mins), tmpge is able to do this:
goto file>mpeg tools>merge&cut>add(the vid u want to cut)>double click on the file and then you can split it(it doesnt have to be split down the middle just take a rough stab)
and also make sure you select mpeg-1 video cd under the 'type' dropdown menu, then you can burn the files with something like Nero to 2 cds

I use raxieo cd creater 7 not Nero is that fine?

yeah roxio is fine
canopus procoder is able to do this im told, but its 500 bucks for the full version which is ridiculous, theres a demo version availible but i think it leaves a watermark or something im not sure, give it a try if you want, but a 14fps to 23fps(ntscfilm) is still watchable with tmpge, id give that a try first to see if its to your liking

hey .. i am runin divx2.5 on a windows me platform. my movies dont seem to run. there is error msg which comes up - 'unrecognized AVI or MPEG-4 format'.. what should i do..please help
