Plz help me with VFAPI reader codec

I use WinXP OS I have a problem opening
pseudo-AVI with Virtual Dub. An error of ?couldn?t locate decompressor for format ?vifp??
In guide it says that probably the VFAPI reader codec is not correctly installed.
I downloaded VFAPI but how can I make it install the VFAPI reader codec correctly? Another important thing is that the icon of the file after converting it to pseudo- AVI by default gets the icon of WMP, does it had anything to do with it?
Pls help.. Thx
