I was giving away my old Dimension 4700c to a friend and trying to wipe the hard drive. Unfortunately it's out of warranty so tech support won't do anything unless they charge me and the Dell Support site is no help. Anyone have any step by step instructions on how to do this?

I believe it does. I do remember it has a boot from disk option but I keep looking for something that says partition but never find it.

if f12 then select destructive format so all current info is wiped & it will reload windows as tho just came from factory including all trial software.

Format it and reinstall windows using the disc that came with the system.

steo, if it has a recovery partition then won't come with recovery disk unless you make 1.

As far as I know most dell's come with windows disks, vEven when they have recovery partitions.

I have yet to try F12 but I recently reset my new Dell Dimension using commands from F8. Some options come up using F8 but I'll try F12.

I think the f8 option is the right one. The f12 is the boot menu as far as I remember.
