Is it possible to use a ps1 emulator on linux on the ps3? if so what would the graphics look like would it look better then playing ps1 games normally on the ps3

No, AFAIK, the graphics etc are limited through linux (to stop exploitation of the system.
The PS3 runs PS1 games anyway, so there shouldn't be any need for this.

It is indeed possible to run a PS1 emulator and a PS2 emulator via Linux,but thats all you can do,you wont be able to play any games,as ibizagti said graphics via Linux are limited.
