hiu, I am using a WD TV with external hard drives hooked to my TV to store and play all of my movie collection. I have converted all of my DVD's to ISO format and placed on the external drives. My WD-TV says it will access the METADATA but i cannot get a picture poster associated with the movie when i am in Thumbnail mode. Nor can i access any other data like Actor, year, Genre, etc. Is this even possible in ISO format? I get pictures of my photo's in thumbnail mode!
I doubt it's possible. The ISO is a complete disc, so... I don't think thumbnails are possible, especially since it's got so many pictures/videos on it.
The pictures and videos can have thumbnails and such because they are, obviously, singular files, not full collections of images and videos.
That said, I'm sure there's a way to mess with the METADATA (if there IS one... I don't believe there is) to allow such a thumbnail, but I have no idea how to do such a thing.
Thanks, i use the ISO format because it only takes me between 5 and 10 minutes to rip a DVD versus 1 to 24 hours to convert to MP4, etc. i also like to keep all quality which is the most important thing. i am only ripping the main moviue and not all of the other junk, wonder if that has any thing to do with it?
Well, if you're just going to take the main movie, then why don't you just rip the .vob file instead of creating an ISO? That way, you should have a preview thumbnail of the video file.
I TRIED THAT BUT I ENDED UP WITH AT LEAST 4 VOB FILES FOR JUST ONE MOVIE. THE WD TV RECOGNIZES THE VOB FILES AS FOUR DIFFERENT FOLDERS AND THEREFORE WOULD SHOW FOUR DIFFERENT FILES FOR ONE MOVIE, TIMES 250 MOVIES, THATS A LOT OF FILES AND A BIT MORE VISUALY COMPLICATED THAN I WANT. uNLESS OFCORSE IM DOING SOMETHING WRONG?

Anyway, what are you using to rip? I think you said CloneDVD? Well, I don't know about that one, but DVD Shrink has the ability to output the .vob as one large file instead of multiple 1GB files. (I think it has something to do with the DVD filesystem's restriction on video files or something...)
But there might be an option in CloneDVD to output the .vob in one single file instead of those chunks. If not, try using DVD Shrink. (Or DVDFab; I think that program has that option, too.)
sorry about the caps, i am labeling movies and like to use caps because im getting blind. originaly i did not want one file because that means that i can not use the next track funcion of the remote but i dont think i can anyway on this WD TV system. i will giv it a shot. thanks
