WHy can't i play my games in firmware 5.00

I assume you mean ISO/CSO type games, no?

The problem is that these file types can only be played with custom firmware installed on your PSP. Sony wouldn't release firmware that would let you do that, obviously, so CFW is what you need.

Because you are on 5.00-OFW, you will NEED to use a pandora battery and an MMS to downgrade your PSP so you can re-update it with custom firmware.
