contemporary 20th century classical.good stuff.gives copeland and crumb a run for their money.these guys were pretty famous while they were alive so it looks really good for you.lol.keep it up.
about 90% of my vinyl collection (about 500 records) are all classical. i love listening to it on vinyl. my favorite composer by far is Tchaikovsky. An absolute genius in my mind.
his violin concerto is a masterpiece. i saw it live by the la phil harmonic a few years ago (i go to the walt disney concert hall a few times a year) and the violin soloist was a 22 year old kid from Russia. he was amazing, blew me away.
i also love the score to the nutcracker. don't really care about the ballet that much, but the musical score is incredible. those are my two favorites, but i pretty much like anything by him.

Oh man, I love his violin concerto. Apparently some critic said that that was "music that stinks to the ear" when it was first performed.
I also love his first piano concerto with the brilliant brass opening. I LOVE IT! :)
Now that i mention it, i would really love to write a piano concerto of my own. Of course it would not equal tchaikovsky's.
yeah i too have read the original reviews about the violin concerto and how horrible it was. pretty wild, huh? also the nutcracker got horrible reviews as well, but not because of the musical score...because of the large number of children in the show, adults found it "confusing" or something like that.
hey dude don't put yourself down like that man. sure you probably can't compose a piano concerto of the same caliber as Tchaikovsky now, but think of it like this...when he was growing up and going to musical school, at some point in time he had the same talent and skill level as you. so it just depends on where you go from here. i take piano lessons and even though i'm tired as effing crazy when i come home from work, i still practice for 30 minutes each night, because that is the only way to improve.
i'm sure with hard work, dedication, and practice you'll be composing pieces like all the top classical artists in no time!

Some very interesting comments. I wasnt putting myself down but was trying to say Tchaikovsky is Tchaikovsky, and Justin Taylor is Justin Taylor. Times are different. Maybe the economy will affect the overall feeling of my concerto lol
I find its the listener that creates the magic in the music. They will hear what they want to in the music. Of course, without them, we'd be out of a job :)
