Hi, I just bought a PS2 again (sold mine years ago when I bought a 360 and I was GOING to buy a PS3, big mistake) to replay some games I missed quite a lot and others I missed (exclusives mostly of course) and was wondering if I could connect the PS2 to my widescreen LCD monitor (PC monitor, NOT an HDTV) through VGA? it has a free VGA connection and I've seen some VGA boxes, they may not be the best but I would like to know if it would look AT LEAST better than a standard def TV (I'm not buying an HDTV since I don't watch TV, will connect the PS3 when I get it to this monitor too since it has HDMI) it doesn't matter if doesn't look perfect.

I also heard 480i games (the majority of games I would be playing) wouldn't probably be playable on a PC LCD monitor? shouldn't VGA upscale that to at least 640x480 (480p) or something? I was wondering because otherwise I would only be able to play 480p PS2 games (which are few and only 1 of the games I'm looking to play for now supports it).

I was looking at this VGA box:

Would that work? I don't mind if non-widescreen games (again, the majority of PS2 games) display only in the middle, also take note my monitor is 16:9 unlike most widescreen PC monitors which are 16:10 so yeah, I've seen some videos on youtube of people using a VGA box to connect the PS2 to LCD monitors but I've seen at least 2 of them where part of the top of the image gets cut off (and I don't mean black bars or anything, just cut off...missing stuff).

I would appreciate a lot of anybody can help with this, thanks.

I was trying to edit but I don't see the option anywhere at all, I would like to know if that VGA box doesn't work or doesn't work with all games, is there a way for ALL (including non-progressive scan/480p games) games to work (display video)?

I've also been looking at this one:

I have exactly the same issue as you bro.

But to my surprise, I see that no one is interested to reply to this thread!

But the links provided by you are really some help.

THanks a lot.

I'll research more.

Many people keep saying though that you should buy something around $60 at the least for it to be a good quality or at least "decent" quality VGA box, that's why for now I'm not looking into this because I don't have a job (laid off) and can't afford that right now, but I suggest you don't get any $30 VGA box or something or you'll be disappointed.

Hey GEDG, is a VGA Box the perfect way to connect PS2 to an LCD monitor?

And if yes, please tell me where I can get it from?

I'll be really grateful to you.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you are right bro...even I feel there is risk involved in buying these cheap VGA boxes...instead should go with the ones that come at double the price...
here's the link:

Mega Cool VGA BOX

This stuff is quite expensive.

Google it and you will know the price, it is around $68!

Well $68 sounds more or less reasonable, but that box you linked is mostly for the HD consoles like PS3 and 360, I don't need that because my monitor has a free HDMI port but I wish it had component for the PS2 but it's not a TV, it is awesome enough that it has HDMI.

Yes, you are right, it would be awesome if LCD Monitors came with component inputs(There are few but are way too expensive).

And maybe this is what you need:

HDMI BLASTER FOR PS2

Please let me know if this is what you were looking for.

Hi, thanks for that it sounds pretty great, but if I wanted to buy it from them how do I buy it? I know XCM are trusted, they have made a lot of awesome equipment for consoles for years.
