Corrupted DVD

I have on my hard disk a movie I downloaded in DVD format (i.e. it consists of VOB, BUP and IFO files).
I wanted to convert the said DVD into avi with AutoGK, however, when I pressed on the "Input File" (in AutoGK) and selected any of the VOB files of the said movie, there appeared the message: "No video streams were found".
It seems to me, therefore, that there is some defect in that DVD, or that it's real format isn't DVD. I should add that if I change the extention of any of the VOB files into AVI, I can play it, but when I am tried to check with AVIcodec what's the format of such AVI, AVIcodec showes nothing.
Is there a way to fix the said DVD?
Thanks in advance

If you select 'VTS_01_0.IFO' instead of the VOB files - does it makes a difference.

If loading it into 'DVD Shrink' gives an error, try running the files through 'FixVTS'

Hi attar and dialysis1 and thanks for trying to help me,
Whenever I've tried to open one of the VOB files of that DVD with DVD Shrink 3.2 - whether by draging the VOB file into DVD Shrink or from the "Open Files" menu of DVD Shrink - there appeared the following message:
"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Invalid filname"
Then, whenever I have tried to open any such VOB file with "Ready to process VTS window" of FixVTS - or by draging the VOB file into the said window - nothing happened.
Hence, I guess I shall have to give up the idea of fixing that DVD, and simply change the extention of each of the VOB files into "AVI" or "mpeg", unless you think it would be preferable to convert those VOB files to some sort of video with some program (which you can recommend).

What is the file name?
Do you have an IFO file to go with that VOB?
This is what DVD Shrink wants to see:
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_0.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB

Hi dialysis1 and thanks,
In the folder of that movie I have a sub-folder whch consists of 18 files as follows :-
one VIDEO_TS.BUP file + 5 VTS_BUP files numbered 01 - 05
one VIDEO_TS.IFO file + 5 VTS_IFO files numbered 01 - 05
one VIDEO_TS.VOB file + 5 VTS_VOB files numbered 01 - 05
I opened DVD Shrink, clicked on the "Open Files" menu, found the above mentioned sub folder>VIDEO_TS and clicked OK.
There appeared the message I have mentioned, namely :
"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Invalid filname"
I should add that all the 5 numbered VOB files are playable.

18 files sounds like a rip of a DVD in FULL disc mode.. ..i think AutoGK gets confused when it's presented with FULL disc mode.
Can't prove it at the moment as my 2 main machines are in the midst of loads of AutoGK conversions..

You can't change the VOB's extensions to AVI and expect then to now be AVIs.

You say the VOBs are playable. If you have Nero Vision (Express) from version 3 and up you could add the VOBs, merge them and with 'Smart Encoding' ticked (it shouldn't re-encode, just reauthor) it will create a playable DVD. The same can also be done in DVD Flick (no re-encode), but is a bit more complicated.

You never know what you're getting when you download a movie.
Just delete it and forget about it. You're lucky you didn't get a virus.
There are corrupt movies for download that were purposely created that way.

The VOB files seem to be named wrong.
I would take:
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_02_0.VOB
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_04_0.VOB
VTS_05_0.VOB
You could place them in a new folder and rename them:
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB
And create a new DVD using IfoEdit.

VTS_02_1.VOB?
And the others?

Too slow.

Hi attar,
Well, as almost allways, you attar, solved the problem:-
As suggested by you, I have re-numbered the VOB files, created a new DVD using IfoEDIT and it works. I am very grateful to you.
dyalysis1, creaky, 7 thinger thaks for trying to help me.
MysticE: I tried to change the extentions of the VOB files (as they were before I renumbered them as suggested by attar) into AVI and I could play each of them. Anyway - thanks.

Hi attar,
Something strange happened to me with that DVD.
You may, perhaps, recall, that my problem started when I wanted to convert with AutoGK that DVD to AVI; however, when I pressed on the "Input File" (in AutoGK) and selected any of the VOB files or IFO file of the said movie, there appeared the message: "No video streams were found".
Now, after I renumbered the VOB files as sugested by you, AutoGK converted the said DVD, however the size of the resulting AVI file is as big as 12.9 GB !( whereas the whole DVD folder is 4.08 GB(that happened when I selected on the "input file" the first VOB. Then I tried again, but this time I selected the IFO file. Notwithstanding, this time too the size of the resulting AVI file was 12.9 GB.
Enclosed hereby I am sending you a link to Screenshot of the AutoGK.
I have made no changes in the "Advance Settings", except that I selected the Divx codec instead of Xivid codec.

Can you think of something that could cause that result ?
Thanks in advance

I don't know what the source files are, but if they are grainy/fast action they may be hard to compress.
Setting 'Target Quality' instead of Size limits the control you have over the output.
You could test it by using one of your DVD's as the source and seeing if there is a difference in output size.

Hi attar and thanks,
The source files are the VOB files an image of which I sent you and I renumbered them according to your advise.
Sorry for my ignorance, however I don't understand what do you mean by "grainy/fast action".
As to setting "Target Quality" instead of size limits: I allways do that and select 75%, and still - unlike in the present case - the size of the AVI file I am getting is allways significantly smaller then the size of the DVD. True, if I am choosing the Target Quality option, and set it to 75%, the resulting AVI file is significantly larger than that I would get by selecting one of the size limit options available in AutoGK; however, I assume that the quality of the larger file is better (isn't it so?).

Hi attar,
It seems, that there is still something wrong with the DVD (movie) I thought I succeded to ammend after re-numbering the VOB files and created a new DVD using IfoEDIT.
True, before I did that, AutoGK reported "No video streams were found", whereas now AutoGK managed to convert the DVD to AVI (though of unusual size); however now, when I wanted to shrink the DVD with DVD Shrink, I got the following message:
"DVD Shrink encountere an error and cannot continue.Invalid data in file......
Invalid data in file......"
