Hi

I have a Hitachi 79 drive which may be damaged, as it doesn't read dvds or 360 games (don't know why its broken). I have a spare BenQ drive (already modified) that I want to put in the 360 where the Hitachi came from. As I understand it, to do this I need to get the drive key from the hitachi, to put on the BenQ, so it will work with the motherboard.

So basically I need to know how to get the drive key from the hitachi and put it onto the BenQ drive. Once I've done this, will it simply be a case of connecting the BenQ to the xbox and it'll all work?

Any help well appreciated

Thanks

You have 2 options. You can pick up another 79 and just swap out boards. Or you can have the tsop desoldered and read.

I would say his laser is just bad. just dump the firmware on the hitachi and use it to spoof the benq. as long as you can dump the firmware your fine.

This is it. All you need that damn Hitachi 79 to do is play a damn audio cd and you can dump the FW. Swap out a laser, dump the key and now you have can still have the spare. You're going to have to spend some money reguardless, a laser is the cheapest thing you can buy.

As a matter of fact, I have a spare Hitachi laser assembly just sitting here for this very occasion.

That will only work if its the exact same hitachi. the versions have to match too.

The firmware has to match the board, and be spoofed as what the original drive was (if necessary).

Spoofing is only necessary when a new drive is put in to a console which had a different model drive in it before.

So in your case, if you originally had a 79 in it and the current board is also a 79, then you don't have to spoof it.

But you're saying you put the 79 board, which was original to that console, in a 47 body and it's working fine? If so, congrats... all you have to do now is flash with the 79 iXtreme.
