Hi guys,
i'm new to this forum as you've probably gathered but i'm in need os some help and advice.
I'm trying to downgrade my psp1003 from official firmware 3.03 to 1.05 so i can install some custom firmware on it.
I have no idea what to do and spent the best part of fours hours trying to find out and still i can't find anything.

Can anybody help please?
Or is there another way that i can play my psx games on my psp without having to downgrade?
I'm totally clueless to this so some help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

:)

You have to downgrade, no two ways about it.

3.03 is a fairly old firmware, and there are three ways of downgrading it;

1) If you have a Lumines UMD, there is a save state exploit which will let you run unsigned code and therefore downgrade that way, i'll post more info if you post back saying you have this game.

2) If you have a GTA LIberty City Stories UMD, you can also downgrade using the same type of exploit as above, i'll again post more info if you say you have this game (note, if it's a new one, it won't work, it has to be an "older" copy of the game).

3) Using a Pandora Battery, there are plenty of guides here on how to make one, or you could just buy one, this is the safest way (as in, there's absolutely no risk what-so-ever), and the most widely used today, since it works for anyone on any firmware, it also places you directly onto custom firmware. See here for a guide to do this http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/708959

I wouldn't really suggest hard-modding your own battery unless you already have a spare, and you think you can manage the task. Otherwise, go buy a DATEL Tool battery (i think you can get them on amazon etc.)

PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB

Thanks for the reply.

I can my hands on the GTA no problem with that update on it so thats not a problem. Which way would you recommend? Is the Pandora battery the easiest and safest way to go? If so i'll buy one of those batteries from amazon today.

Thanks again :)

Well, i've helped people through all sorts of downgrades, starting way back with the 2.00 to 1.50 MPH downgrader, they're all fairly safe, but up until the Pandora Battery was created, you'd be lying if you said to someone "this can't break your PSP", and though there is little risk, it's still safer to use a Pandora Battery if you want total peace of mind.

If you can get GTA cheaper than you could a pre-made Pandora Battery then i'd suggest you go with that, though it has to be one of these (and EXACTLY these) serial numbers for it to work:

UK/Europe:
ULES 00182 - 5280259
ULES 00151

Holland:
ULES 00151 - 5280174

USA:
ULUS 10041 - UPDL D04850
ULUS 10041 - UPDL 0048501A 5
ULUS 10041 - UPDL 004850

Germany:
ULES 00182 - 5280129

Canada:
10041 - 010050
ULUS 10041 - UPDL 004850
10041-F - 010050

You will find this serial code at the bottom of the case's spine. Also, apparently another way to tell if it will work is if on the back of the case the top left hand picture shows a plane and a bike, if it doesn't have this, it won't work, so check this first.

If you feel safer going with the Pandora Battery or if it will end up cheaper that way, then get one of those and follow the guide i linked to above.

I've decided to go down the pandora route. Will this one be ok or does it have to be the Datel Tool:

that one ok but can only be used as a pandora, this one i have http://www.focalprice.com/1200mAh_Pandor...P059W_7922.html can be used as a normal as well so after i set it to pandora mode by holding down a button once finished installing CFW i pressed a button and now its my normal battery, if i need it in pandora again i just press button again. makes a great spare normal battery

Yes, that's fine, the DATEL is an actual Pandora Battery, what that does is convert your present Sony battery into a Pandora Battery and back again (by flashing a special eeprom code to the battery - the same way custom firmware users can soft-mod batteries).

Thanks again Shokz :)

Not a problem, and it sounds you're pretty competent, but in case you didn't know - If a specific PSX game won't run, you should try using it with POPSLoader (I used to have some links to a place to download the files and a decryptor for the firmware files, but i've lost them :( Though i presume you'll be able to hunt them down yourself).

POPSLoader makes a PSX game run using whatever firmware you tell it to, some PSX games only work with certain firmwares so it can be very useful.

Well so far i've converted about 20 psx games and all seem to be playing great. It's been pure bliss playing Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy VII again.
Thanks for the info and tips, you've been a great help!
Thank you
