I have a D2C wii modded with D2PRO9 V3.
I also have a D2B wii modded with flatmod.
Both PAL.

Both consoles play all PAL backups, but neither of them can play NTSC/ JAP backups going to a black screen after boot. All my burns are 4x speed on Sony DVD-R (16x).

Some of the foreign titles ask me to update my wii. Should I accept?

Cheers.

Definitely do not update with another regions firmware. Update your wii through your wii menu. To play another region with your wiis you may have to enable regions, Im not sure cause I have an old wii with a wiikey, with the wiikey I have to download a config disc , burn it, stick it in and disable region lock. you may have to do the same check your chips website.

Not unless you want to brick your wii!

Not sure what your problem is but you should either brickblock or replace the updates before you burn the disks - Try using WUM (Wii Update Manager).

As said above do not update the Wii with an out of region disc.

Also keep in mind not all Import games are region compatible. Go HERE for a compatibility list of games that are and are not compatible.

I wouldn't suggest updating to 4.0 firmware at this time.

If you have 4.0 firmware already and do not have the homebrew channel then the below option is not available to you.

A option you do have if you have 3.4 or below is Gecko OS. This is a homebrew application that boots Import games. The compatibility to boot imports can be better using this option rather then the Modchip region free option. This application will let you force PAL on NTSC titles.

If you also get the correct version it will block Import updates from being installed on your system.

In order to do this you will need the Twilight Princess hack, WAD Manager and a Gecko OS wad installer file.

rename the WAD Manager dol file to boot.dol and place it at the root of the SD Card.

Make a wad folder in the root of an SD Card and place the Gecko OS WAD installer file in that folder.

Now run the Twilight Hack which will run WAD Manager letting you install the Gecko OS channel.

If you already have the homebrew channel installed you can run WAD Manager from that.

Now all you need to do is launch your Import games through Gecko OS.

To even be safer you can run the Import ISO backups through WiiBrickBlocker which will disable the update on the disc.

Have you tried using regionfrii or wiigion free prior to burning the games to change the region from ntsc/ntsc-j to pal?

Oh, and everyone else is right about not updating from a different region disc. But i do have a question that i have been wondering about my own wii if anyone can come up with an answer. I updated my wii with a pal region game and my wii did not brick on me. Can anyone explain why that is without answering that I was just lucky? I have a ntsc-u wii with a drivekey.

It was probably an update/patch for the game itself and not a firmware update.
