Hey all, I've got a small but ongoing problem here. For about 4 weeks now I've had a problem with the WiiConnect24 Standby Connection freezing up my Wii on startup. Now I know it would only happen sometimes (preferably to me when I haven't played in weeks or a month due to obligations) but now it happens EVERY TIME I turn the Wii off w/ standby WiiConnect24. It can only go probably an hour or so on standby without freezing (if you start it up again). I have to unplug it every time for it to work.
Now this is what I mean by freezing, I get that black screen startup glitch but my Wimote still syncs up and my disc runs, it's honestly the standby connection freezing up the start up. It works fine when I turn it on after it's standby connection has been turned off. It's really annoying having to turn standby off and even more annoying having to unplug my Wii everytime I want to use it
I've even tried dusting out the entire Wii, wiping it and blowing air w/ a fan into the vents in a careful procedure. It still happens. Keep in mind it's only the blackscreen startup glitch (Wiimotes still sync) and everything works fine after I unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in.
What should I do? I don't want to send it in to Nintendo. I do have System Menu 4.0. I highly doubt me having Homebrew could be the problem. If you need to me go in depth with homebrew, if that could possibly be the case, then I will.
Try turning the WiiConnect24 mode OFF for a few days to see if it is in fact the WiiConnect24 mode that is causing this problem. Another thing you can try (to see if it is a heat problem) is to run the Wii with the cover OFF, and with a fan blowing at it. If the problem goes away, then you probably have an issue with heat. Then you may not have a choice but to send it back to Nintendo. I have one of those USB fans connected to the USB port; this runs even when the Wii is "off", and the WiiConnect24 is active. This fan will probably cost less than $10, so it maybe another thing to try before sending it back to big N.
I turned it off for a few days and it was fine. But when I turned it back on to Standby it immediately went to freezing upon start up again. I have no CIOS installed.
Alright I'll try some more fanning/unplugging methods. I'll buy the fan when I can. Do you know if WiiConnect24 still works w/ out the Standby Connection if the Wii is actively on? Or is it a standby-only feature?
