Hi i fixed my xbox that got a E 74 error with the x-clamp fix. It turns on and all four green lights does the circle of green lights but after the forth light blinks it goes to the two left lights blinking (red) and shuts off. I than touch the underneath of the mobo and the cpu chip is hott within 2 to 3 seconds. I cant figure out why and was wondering if anyone knew. Thanx

did you clean all the old thermal paste off(chip surface should shine) and apply new thermal paste?

is your fan working/ plugged in??

heatsink not on backwards?

If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

Yup the chips are spotless clean. I even took off the heat sinks again and cleaned everything and put them back on again. Ring of death is gone, but after 5 to 10 seconds of the Xbox turning on, it overheats. The CPU side of the fan doesn't turn on at all also. Idk what it is.

Also it's not the fan. The fan works on my brothers system but not on this one. And the heatsinks r on right

Well, without the fan it will overheat. You need to figure that out. Or it's the power supplied to the motherboard. Did you try another power brick?

maybe you put something in the wrong place and something is touching the metal case. That's what happened to me. I got the rrod and took the heat sinks off and cleaned them(both heat sinks and dies and put new thermal paste on them). I also used screws to hold the heat sinks in place in stead of the xclamps. I then powered it on(out of the case) and it worked. I then put it back in the case and it gave me the two flashing lights. I took it out and noticed the heads of the screws were slightly touching the metal bottom. So I took the heads of the screws and put electrical tape on them and tried again and it has been working for the last 3 months with no problem. Just make sure you don't over tighten the screws/xclamps because it could cause you to get the two red lights also( don't know why, it happened to me before so I had to losen the screws and the lights went away).

well i think that is just a rumor. but really a working banned console would be better than a non-working console

Very true. Did you splice the wire? How did you do it?

Yeah, the fans are a big necessity on the xbox. So is the cowl that lets the fans pull air right off the heat sinks. A guy brought me his xbox a couple weeks ago saying it was overheating. I took it apart that afternoon, saw the white cowl was missing, put an extra one I had on it, and it worked perfectly. Made the guy pay me $15 for gas because I drove to meet him both ways.

In my experience if they are overtightened you get the RROD again, too loose I get the overheating error. Sometimes it takes some playing with it(tightening, turn it on, loosen, turn it on) to get it just right.

But the fans are first, gotta get those working one way or another. I'm not sure what voltage the fans run, but if its around 5-6 volts, you could run a couple wires from the usb port pins 1 and 4(one being power, four being ground).

I just had this same problem I fixed the rrod sweet as had been playing on my box for about 3mths before it got the rrod again So I opend it up expecting to Just do the fix again so I did . Then when i went to " Bake it " I seen that the Gpu fan wasnt working ?????? NOT GOOD I Played around with it and figured that the red and black Wires that run from The gpu fan to the plug Weren't getting any power from the motherboard So I cut the Red and black Wires At the plug An striped The Brown And blue wires from the Cpu fan and connected them Together plugged it in And away it went No problems Since And Its Running so cold im Quite impressed with it :) Hope you get it sorted Peace
