This is my first time trying this out, I just want to get this right.

Steps:
Install CIOS rev 9 or 10 through homebrew channel
Plug external in (while wii is on or off?)
Run USB ISO Loader 1.4 through homebrew channel

Problem:
I'm not sure how to partition my external.

I have a 60GB WD Passport External I can backup and plan to use. It is already formatted FAT32.

So how would I go about creating another partition and formatting it into WBFS so its FAT32/WBFS?

Also do I have to let the wii format it to WBFS or can I do it on my pc?

Does the WBFS partition have to be the primary partition?

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

if you are planning to used the other half as media center database(geexbox or mplayer CE) or emulator games then it much better the WBFS as 2nd partition..

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/761233

for partitioning used google, best tools to used Gpart or acronis and both should be primary not logical..

I put CIOS rev10 and USB Loader v.14 in the apps folder of the SD card and renamed them to boot.dol.

When I tried to install CIOS with WAD INSTALLATION I immediately get error ret = -1.

EDIT
I was missing The original IOS36-64-v1042.wad file. Now its time to partition and format my external.

EDIT2
When I click on WBFSgui.exe, it doesn't load up and gives me an error message. Any ideas as to why?

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

It is in the same directory as wbfs_win.exe.

I'm currently installing WBFS Manager 2.5, hopefully that works. That worked and I added the games, now to see if it works on the Wii.

IT WORKS!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Will do.

Also does USB Loader v1.4 auto force NTSC and pal?

Where do I put the images for the cover or box art?

EDIT
Thanks for the tip, didn't freeze again after I made those changes.

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

I have cios10 and I'm experiencing a lot of freezing in games too... how do I go back to cios9? Can I just install it over 10?

Thats what I read you are supposed to do (install CIOS rev9 over w/e you are using) and thats what I did. That seemed to do the trick. Good luck!

Questions:
1. Does USB Loader v1.4 or 1.5 or Ultimate USB Loader v7.4 auto force NTSC and pal? NO, I also tried to force NTSC on a pal game with the popular loaders and it didn't work on any of them.

2. Why is there no information for my apps in the homebrew channel (isn't the latest version)? Was missing meta.xml and icon.png

3. Is it safe for me to update to 4.0?

EDIT
I am getting annoyed because no matter what I do, the cover art doesn't show up in USB Loader. I followed the readmes and did what I was told also. Maybe it is because I am using an External HD and I need to the files on it? Cover Art only works on CIOS rev10

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

My latest issue is with cover art.

I am using multiple loaders, but my favorite is the Gui Loader found here: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=149922

My problem is that all the loaders say you can customize the path to the images/cover art but I don't see how this is done in any of them and the predefined loader folders are conflicting which only causes one loader to get images while another doesn't.

Am I supposed to edit a config.txt file or something because that isn't included with the loaders I found.

How do I edit or define the image/cover art path?

EDIT
Found it for the Ultimate USB Loader: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=148759

there's ussually a config.txt or menu.txt where you can customized the loader located on the same folder with your DOL or you need to have a config.txt in SD:/config/ for this specific loader.

The config.txt constain all the path and behavior of the loader like forcing to NTSC/PAL, child lock play only), ocarina cheat code or backround images.

I have not used this loader due to changes everyday and also due to game freeze causes by Cios rev10. If you have Cios rev9 it will not work..

Yea I changed the path for the Ultimate USB Loader images to share with Waninoko's USB Loader images.

The problem for my USB ISO Loader Gui was that the dimensions were not multiples of 4.

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

I have used both Wankinko's USB loader and The Ultimate USB Loader, but I must ask, why are you using both? To keep games seperate? Just wondering.

And, while I'm at it, can anyone point me to a thread that shows how to use emulators, last place I asked this(I think it was gbatemp) I got told you have to load emulators and roms off of the SD. Thanks in advance

Its probably better to have 3 loaders instead of one in case some of them can't run a game.

As far as emulators go, I think they can be run as apps in the homebrew channel or off playable discs. Here is a website with the name of some emulators: http://www.wiiiso.com/emulators.php

Good Luck!

I still need to try to merge the 3 loaders cover art into one folder. The only one I can set the path is the Ultimate USB Loader using config.text and images_path = SD:/images/.

So what files (name.txt or w/e) do I need and how do I input the line (images_path = SD:/images/) for Waninkoko's and the USB ISO GUI Loader?

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

No problem, we are all here to learn as a team.

I also achieved my goal, 3 different loaders share the same cover art folder, good 2 go now.

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

Hi

Seem to have a strange problem not listed here so if any1 can help I would appreciate it...

Have a soft modded wii currently on 4.0e. Got BootMii and Preloader installed.
Can install Wads and channels no problem.
But when I try to use the USB loaders it doesnt recognise any devices.

Have an external 250Gb enclosure and a SanDisk 4Gb Cruzer (with U3 partition removed) The Sandisk is on the approved list of drives.
Both formatted to Fat32 and then using WBFS Manager 3.0 to add games (also used WBFS GUI to try)

Have installed all cIOS versions available and also cMIOS.

When I try to mount either of the drives it pauses at the 30 second timeout (doesnt count up) and then says no WBFS Partition Found.
When I then try to format one it says none found...

My Wii was originally a 3.4e which I softmodded with the twighlight hack. Then when 4.0 came out I upgraded and softmodded again. But it failed with the USB drives then.
I did a downgrade a few weeks ago and a system memory format. then upgraded to 4.0e again and did the bannerbomb hack. All in an attempt to get the USB working.

Any ideas what I am missing?

TIA

are you able to add games using the WBFS tool from your PC? does it recognized those games?

which USB loader version are you using?

One solution i did using new HDD is used the older USB loader (V1.1) and used that to format and install one game to the HDD. Initially it was failing to format the HDD using usbloader GX and the HDD is also in the approved list.

make sure that the HDD is formated as primary.

Yea - WBFS can see the drives and can add the ISO's to it.

I am currently using Waninkoko's 1.5 but in the past I have tried 1.4 and (from memory) 1.3)

Which USB Loader 1.1 do you use because I thought that most came from Waninkoko's original code? But if there are distinct versions made by other coders then I can try them.
Which CIOS's have you installed? I have tried 36-10 (again i think from memory) and currently 38-v13b installed as IOS249

HDD's are formatted as primary - even made a single 32Gb primary on the HDD and used format32 to format it. Cruzer has 3.2Gb Primary partition formatted as Fat32 and then formatted in WBFS Manager again as a WBFS partition.

Not sure what model drive it is - will have to look inside the enclosure but I am sure its a WD 250Gb - will check and update when I can

thanks again
