i noticed that the disc spins very slowly and the game loads slowly. im thinking on changing the read speed of ps2 but i need to know if it is safe since someone mentioned that my lens is closer to its death.

YOu can change the setting if you want. It may or may not help as that setting is used for PS1 games.
Some say it helps, just remember when you shut off the PS2 it won't save the changes.

Do you have a Slim or FAT PS2. If you have a slim its easy to clean the laser, if you have a FAT, I can give you a guide on how to take it apart to clean the laser.

Try cleaning the laser first with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol

Clean gently but firmly in a circular motion for about 30 sec.

Then using the dry end of q-tip, dry it in the same manner for about 6-8 secs.
