Alright well I've been ripping and backing up DVD's for a couple months now however recently I decided to switch my XBox 360, DVD-Player, Cable box, etc. to HDMI. However I've been getting quite annoyed lately as I'm discovering certain DVD's play condensed when using an HDMI cord. By condensed I mean it has the two black blank black spots on both the right and left. For the most part it is strictly with older DVD titles but even some made in the not so recent past have this problem. I usually use my XBox 360 to watch my DVD's if that makes any difference.

Basically my question is whether or not there is a way to fix this when ripping and then burning these titles. I use DVDFab Decryptor > DVDShrink > ImgBurn.

Or is this simply a matter of me having to change the resolution of the TV from whatever the setting is to 480p (which I believe is what a DVD's resolution is.)? I figured the TV would do that automatically but maybe that is would be the fix?

Thanks in advance. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would assume these are 4:3 vids. Do the people look right, not tall and thin? If you aren't happy with the effect you'll have to back to analog inputs and let your TV fill the screen (while distorting the AR). With my sets using HDMI the various screen formatting choices are no longer available.

I do believe they are 4:3 vids. I'm able to change the picture size while using HDMI on my television to wide fit which fixes the problem without too much noticable distortion. However it is a pain to have to change it back and forth for DVD's that are full screen so I think I'll just use both my HDMI connection and also the old component connection for the DVD's that are like this.

Thanks for the response.
