my samsungDVD drive's laser doesn't work and it doesn't spin disks properly, i recently got a working hitachi drive from my friend and can't find a way to swap it, i have looked alot of places and couldn't find it.
could someone tell me or give me a link to a place that tells me how to switch a samsung for hitachi (not hitachi for samsung, that's all i could find) thanks
Now he leaves out in that tut(very poorly written but tells you exactly what you need to do) that first you need to download Firmware Toolbox, google it, should be pretty easy.
And if you are going through this trouble now, might as well flash it at the same time. If you want to that is, now would be the best time.
To do that, download the iExtreme 1.51 fw for Samsung. Using Firmware toolbox enter your key into the "Key" field, select "Save key" and then flash it(Tools\Direct Drive Flash\Differential Flash). Be sure to save your key.
If you want to keep original firmware (not iExtreme) but just need to spoof it, the Tut tells you exactly how to do it.
Also, try using Jungle Flasher, it might be easier for you(Jungle Flasher wants nothing to do with my computer, so I use Firmware Toolbox for my Hitachi needs). It is user friendly and there is an abundance of tuts for it now.
Try switching sata ports, sometimes that helps. Has the drive been flashed before? If so, turn on the Xbox, open the drive, unplug the power cord from the Xbox(to turn it off, you can't just push the button else the drive will close). Plug it back in, turn on the xbox, the drive should close, press eject, if it takes two presses to get it to open, its in Mode B.
Note: this only works if it has been flashed before. If not, slax and the two wire trick(if you attempt this be VERY CAREFUL to pull the resistor off the wires AS SOON AS the power LED comes on.)
If you can find out what port its on, use Jungle Flasher and use the "Send Mode B" command.
I personally could never get Jungle Flasher to recognize the port.
You can try hot swapping it. To do this:
1. Start up computer with regular cd or dvd drive in, once recognized, switch the sata cable to your Hitachi drive. This works for some people, I've got it to work before.
2. After you switch it go to Device Manager and scan for hardware changes.
