oke,

i have psp (1004) with OFW 3,95. the memorystick light is blinking orange when i insert an original! 1 gig sony memorystick. the memory stick does not show up in my psp, and the light keeps blinking orange. i formatted it on my pc, i formatted it in another psp. the mem stick works fine on my pc and on my other psp, but not in the above psp.

but....

i was fiddling around with it, and i found out that if i insert the memory stick really slowly into the slot, it started reading the memory stick and it shows up as 956mb. as long as i keep it in this position, so the mem stick is not pushed in entirely (,it isn´t locked in the mem card reader of the psp (so i have to hold it with my nail or else it is launched into my room....) it will read the stick and its content just fine. as soon as i gently push the stick its locked position and here the click (now it is locked into the psp´s mem card reader', the mem stick still shows as 956 mb but the content cannot be read anymore.

so i have it in three states±
if i push in the card straight forward, the orange light blinks and it isn´t recognized at all.
if i push it in real gently (letting the mem card being recognized whilst not locking it) it works fine.
as soon as i push it in completely (and locks into the reader), it is still recognized but the content is not being read.

so the memcard reader of the psp is the problem, but does anyone have a solution. or some thought or comments that i can work with. any ideas - thoughts are appreciated.

i had a similar problem with an old pda (ipaq), where the pins inside the ipaq´s sd slot weren´t making contact. either replacing the sd slot or soldering in a memory card (a converter sd to mini card) was the only solution (i soldered in a converter slot). but for the psp this isn´t a real solution off course, the mem card has to be taken out.

This occurs if you often remove and insert the mem card excessively and unnecessarily. The MS should only be removed if you wish to unbrick your PSP. Buy the highest capacity card that you can afford and try not to removed it.
