Hey guys i'm new to the forum and to the world of video editing etc.. but I've been browsing the forums for a few days and get the concepts to a point, that backuping your movies to the best quality is to use Dvd fab then shrink or dvd rebuilder and then burn to dvd for best quality. But as far as best quality for AVI files and such, was is the prescribed method? I'm trying to backup my old animes and a few movies to my pc and want to view them in the best quality on my widescreen 24" monitor.

Thanks for the link mistycat, i've tried using this program with mixed results over the past few days. It either doesn't give me a fullscreen view without black bars on the screen or the quality isn't as sharp. I will continue to explore the program further. Any other suggestions from anyone?

DVDFabHDDecrypter Platinum rip's to avi but isn't free. Alltoavi convert's the individual vob's to avi and then you'd have to use a program like AviMux_Gui or whatever to join them, both free but more time consuming, probably 20-30 minute's and the DVD need's to be ripped to your HD first.

use the free fairuse wizard lite and convert to avi (use the h264 codec 2-pass mode for the best quality). To get rid of the blackbars fairuse will let you crop them out, and check the box that reads "use tv display mode".

Make sure when you rip your dvds, you rip them into ISO format. Fairuse only converts ISO.
