Microsoft's virtual festival, Xtival '09 runs from May 1 to 4 (this weekend) and during that time frame, Xbox Live Gold Membership will be free to all Xbox Live users (at least in the UK). Well, I think the idea behind this is similar to the free game weekends on steam. Let people try it over the weekend, and then about 10 to 20% of the ones that tried it will sign up for a full year of xbox live.
