Now, my question is, what do I do if I want to play an original game on my sofmodded wii. I suppose I will have to use the original disc channel and not the backup channel. Wouldnt that initiate an update from the game (if it has one?). Is there any way to stop that?
I know I could just play a backup version and use the backup loader, but there are some games (like ssbb) that I want to play with no hickups or slowdowns (that they may have when playd by gamma loader).
Also, as a sidenot, can sb link me to a guide on how to install wiiware and vc backuped games? Thanks :)
Since you have homebrew installed already, you should be able upgrade to 4.0 safely. I've been on 3.4 since I started softmodding, and don't know what firmware you're using. SSBM works fine on mine, no updates needed.
When a new update comes out just browse around these and other similar forums to see if the same applies to those.
For WiiWare/VC games get WAD Manager (.wad is the file type used for channels), and follow the directions. Its pretty straight forward.

Even if a game asks for an update that is fine since they are from your region. Only issue you will have is if you aren't on 4.0 and if a game comes out with 4.0 on it (none currently). I'd upgrade to 4.0 using the proper guide to help prevent this and add the new features.
