Hey guys.

I starting flashing to 1.51 on my hitachi and just my luck
the power goes out because we're on a key meter.

end result.

Hitachi now bricked and can't get in to it at all.
won't eject, can't detect it.

anyways.
wondering if anyone has any idea how to unbrick a drive after a failed flash. I've read something about reflashing the chip with an external board, if that's true how much do they cost... where can I buy etc etc.

I've got the key info so would it be easier to just grab another drive?

any help appreciated.... especially since it's my girlfriends xbox and i'm feeling like a right idiot about now.

You have to desolder the TSOP and read the fw in an external reader. Some fellow afterdawn folks will come in and offer this service to you.

Like Menace said, people on here can read the TSOP and flash it, then put it back on the board, but the easier and quicker fix would probably grab up a BenQ off E-bay and spoof it with the Hitachi key.

In my opinion, and a lot of others from what I've read, the BenQ's are by far the easiest to flash, the most reliable, and run the quietest. I think you can pick one up for around $30-40 off e-bay.

But if she doesn't know yet, I'd give her mine to skip out on feeling stupid, lol. Gotta keep the Macho-ism up, can't appear to be the inferior sex! And you KNOW that she will never let you live it down. 10 years from now you are gonna get in a fight and she's gonna bring up "that time you broke my xbox, you idiot!" Haha

Even if I didn't brick the Hitachi drive, I would still buy a BenQ and throw the Hitachi drive in the trash (maybe eBay it to some poor soul).

Bad Flash recovery is a very very nice feature.

funny enough I have a benq sitting here... thing is i'm kinda keeping it for myself. my xbox just died (e74 for the third time... x-clamp doesn't last forever :'( ) and i'm keeping it in case I get a liteon in my new one turnin up in a couple days.

what are the chances it's a lite on btw? are they just standard now or what cos i'm hoping it's not.

They are standard now. Even heard of a new HW revision that seems to not allow dumping by traditional means.

Well even if you did keep it for yourself, you would have to read the lite-on to get the new key, and then your only a step away from flashing it.

Once its flashed, unless I'm mistaken, its just as easy as a BenQ to flash.

it has to be an xbox 360 drive. as for any model, i cant confirm that but i can say i had a spare hitachi 59 board and put in in a dead 59 drive and it worked. i believe if the new board matches the rev # of the old board it will work. otherwise, you might have to flash keys.
