Okay, so i'm all ready to flash my 360 this evening, a friend of mine does them by i want to do my own, console arrived today so all is go...i gave him a call to get a few pointers and see if he's gone anything wrong before, so as to learn from his mistakes and he claims that you can simply "twist a bolt" as he put it and it reads backups...
Now i have a feeling the "bolt" he is talking about if the potentiometer..but i also think he's talking crap..so whats the story??
Can you actually get your 360 to read backups simply by fiddling with the pot?? or is it bull??
If this is possible then i am assuming its better to flash the drive than alter the pot?
In a nutshell, the pot adjusts the resistance of the current running through the lazer. There's no way possible to adjust it to make a stock 360 read backups.

Thanks in advance for any answers!
Dude, come on. Search and you'll find your answer. Your xbox has to be modded to play any backups. Ajusting the pot would only increase the laser strength and is not recommended. It will just burn out your laser faster.
In order to read back-ups, you must flash your XBOX 360 drive with iXtreme firmware.
As far as I know, the only thing you could adjust like that would be on the DVD laser itself. You can adjust the resistance if you are having trouble reading back-ups.
I have linked the Jungle Flasher tutorial in my signature. Follow that and you will be able to flash your drive.
Thanks to all but one of you for the very helpful advice, i was merely curious as to whether or not its possible, its more so i can call his bluff on it!
