Well I finally got my drive today and I am anxious to get it spoofed. As you may know I bricked 2 Hitachi drives and I will not use JF or Toolbox to flash. I will however use JF to spoof the firmware so i can use it in Iprep. I don't know if this is posible but I'm sure you guys will let me know.

Heres my question. Do I flash my new benq drive with a hitachi fw or do I spoof my benq firmware to look like a hitachi. I am a little confused on to how I should proceed. Also I have my key for my hitachi 79 drive but don't know how to read the bin file. Thanks in advance as always I am just ready to get this over with.

Load your original Hitachi firmware in the source of JF.
Load ix1.51 for BenQ in the target.
Click spoof and save your custom firmware.
I would use iPrep to make your USB drive bootable. Then delete everything off of it. Put DosFlash 1.7 (DosFlash16 folder) on the USB drive along with your custom firwmare. Dosflash16 contains 2 files, dosflash.exe and dosflash.typ.
Boot to the USB drive and type dosflash.exe.
Will list all your SATA ports and should pick up your BenQ, might have to power cycle it to get it into vendor mode.
Type W for write.
Type your name of custom firmware. Example Benq_CFW.bin.

Maybe try reading the BenQ drive firmware. If you can read in JF, you should be able to write.

Why not use JF to do it all? Not sure how you bricked a drive. At least with the benQ you can recover from a bad flash.

If I remember right I think he had an issue with a Hitachi 79 freezing during flash and it bricked. Not for sure if it was an issue with his SATA chipset or what. But like I said, if he is able to read the firmware in JF, he should be able to flash.

More of a reason to buy what works. Could have saved him two drives...

Well My problem was that I was trying to get my first hitachi back to original which i did and then when I tried to reflash it froze. I then bought a system that was rrod which i fixed and was going to flash the hitachi 59 in it. Obviously with JF freezing the last time I had looked around and found toolbox 4.8 and it seemed to have positive feedback. Again in the middle of flashing it froze.

It had nothing to do with buying the right stuff. They are both unstable and that is the reason why I have two bricked drives. I have done more than 10 boxes that were succesfull the first time around. All but two of them were not hitachis. To me its a combo of windows xp being unstable and JF and TB being unstable and I was just one of the unlucky ones. There are plenty of people on here that rave about these two programs. I have been bit and so I will not use them. Thanks as usuall leerage.

Hmm. Why don't people just buy the via card? I know I know, $15 is a lot for all the games you are getting....

A wrong chipset will cause a freeze. If it's setup right, it will work.

I may have done something wrong though i don't think so. Iprep won't read my new FW but will read and untainted ix151-benq. I even renamed my firmware to be exactly how the orig is and still says invalid firmware. Is there a way around preloading the firmware. Can i just put the firmware in the folder that says firmware inside of Iprep. Thanks in advance.

Check out my first reply again. DosFlash will allow you to do that exactly, just type the name of the firmware and flash.

Well i happen to have that chipset onboard so thats not the problem. Its not something like hacking a 360 dvd drive is cut and dry. Things are going to happen I just happen to be one of those people that take risks. Most of the time it pays off other times it does not.

?? I thought you said you had intel chipset. That is not the same thing as VIA. Not all chipsets work, so keep on banging your head on the wall

show me where I said i had an intel chipset. I have not even mentioned intel in this entire topic. So maybe it is your head that needs to be banging. Now leerage I cannot for the life of me get the drive unlocked. it just continues with the same X51 or whatever and will not unlock. Also I used to have all 4 of my sata ports visible in JF but on this latest install all I see is the primary master. Any idea why it would not show all four of them? Game if all your going to do is post sacarstic remarks instead of helping just steer clear of my posts. Much appreciated. Thanks leerage again.

I know I did not mention this earlier but I got this off of e-bay from a company in china that had a 98% approval so I figured that it was ok. Is there something else you have to do to the drive before it will work? I don't know if that info helps or not but I figured I better say something.

You got a 360 off ebay or a card? The cards they sell on ebay are junk from what I have been told. Like I said 100 times, get the 6421 card and you'll have no problems.

no I got my replacement drive from China. It does have a diffrent firmware on it. I just don't know how to go about getting it to show up in jungle flasher so I can unlock it. My bios sees it so does dosflash but it won't go into vendor mode. Whats the best way to do this? Thanks in advance.

Not sure if the drives are different. Wouldn't this be a PAL drive? Maybe it doesn't matter.

I always put benq's into vendor mode by sending device id request then power cycling the drive. always seems to work for me. How are you powering the drive? if you are using the xbox for power if the power cycle doesnt work try using jungle flasher with Benq unlock then restart pc and go into dosflash and just leave the xbox on this whole time and it should stay in Vendor mode.

I may be stupid but what do you mean by sending device ID request? Is that in JF or is that a windows thing or what. Thanks

Well I finally got it. For whatever reason JF would not recognize the drive so i went back into my bios and reset to default and whatever it was fixed itself. I would highly recommend if you need a new drive this company's drives are good. here is the e-bay ad i got it from.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-BenQ-VAD60...3DLVI%26ps%3D54

I hope this helps someone else who may have bricked there drive. Thanks to all of you for helping. As always it is greatly appreciated.

I got something like your case, but the only diference is that I just bricked one drive (an hitachi 79FL). So. now I'm looking on ebay a replacemnt as yours. But just to know, which one is better drive to spoof as my old bricked Hitachi 79fl: A Sammy MS28 or Benq VAD6038 ?

My case was weird because I could make it work, everything perfect, Slax CD, Mode B, 79 unlock play, and finally the FWtoolbox application, that I used to flash a ixtreme 1.41 (that was the most updated included in the automatic mode of the fwtoolbox). Evrything worked and the drive patched perfectly. Until I realized that really I had the old FW, decided now to upgrade to 1.51. First, I downgraded the fw to the original, until this point, that worked, but then I used the same fwtoolbox to flash 1.51, this time manually, and when I looked for diferences, got a warning message "a lot of dirences", so applied the patch and boom!... frozen. The drive doesn't open at all. Anyway, that is history.

Now , I would like to resolve my case as yours buying a new one, but I want to do this time the right choice buiyng the correct one and a better drive to get into mode b , vendor, factory or whatever easier than 79!.

besides, I backed up everithing, keys, firmwares original, etc.

Well I would have to say the benq is the only way to go because of the bad flash capabilitys that the Benq's have. It took my drive about 10 days to get to me and it was more of a hardware issue for me than the drive just not showing up. Just order it and you will be pleased. By the way if I were you i would stay away from toolbox. JF is ok but I will only use benq drives from now on since it supports bad flash. That way atleast you won't have to worry about bricking it too. Just look from the same company i used and they will hook you up. Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention to follow leerages advice on how to spoof your firmware in the second or third post on this thread. Once I did that it was easy as pie. Also I actually did it all in JF even though I said I wasn't going to.
