I'm a complete newbie to XBOX 360 and i need some assistance. What will i need to make my XBox 360 system operational?

My friend gave me his old Xbox 360. He just recently got an elite and can't seem to find all the cables necessary or anything so he just gave me the system ALONE.

I'm assuming i'll need a remote, batteries(maybe), a memory card (maybe), cable to connect it to the television, cable to connect to power outlet.

Is there a website where i can get the necessary accessories to start it up?(preferable low prices)

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Try Ebay. There's alot of people with broken 360's that sell power cords and av wires for cheap.
Spring for a new controller though. Buying one used is a gamble, you might get stuck with broken/sticky buttons or whatever.
As for a memory card... you can get by with using one, but they fill up quickly. You'll want to pick up a hard drive sooner or later.
Hope this helps out.

1. Power brick.
2. Video cable (either composite, component, or HDMI)
3. Wired or Wireless controller (If wireless then you need 2 AA batteries)
4. Memory card unit or HDD.

That's pretty much all of the necessary equipment.

If you have the dough, run by your local Wal-Mart. They are selling the 60 GB HDD with a 3 month membership to xbox live and a headset for $90. Don't know if you can get that anywhere else, but I know you can at wal-mart. As for the other stuff..
Controller-$50 for wireless with rechargable battery.(walmart or anywhere else that sells that type of stuff)
AV Cable - Gaming store or E-bay
Power Brick - Maybe a gaming store, not sure, but if not, E-bay will work.
As for the AV cable, If your Tv has HDMI inputs, I'd go that route, and you can pick one up almost anywhere, but I'd go to Newegg.com. They have 6ft cables for around $15. I am using one and can't tell a difference between it and the $60 cable I bought before it.

Newegg is a good site to shop at but for cables I'd recommend monoprice-

6ft. HDMI cable for ~$4.

Make sure you get the correct Power brick, while it may not be as bad as to burning your house down, you could run into problems for not using the correct wattage

Remember that depending on the Xbox version, you may need a 203W,175W and I believe there is another wattage on the newer consoles but can't remeber, anyhow just be careful.

Hope you get it working

Between the power brick, audio/video cable, controller and HDD (like jcalton88 said, I recommend the Starter Pack with the 60 GB HDD, wired headset, 3 months live and extra ethernet cable), you're probably going to be paying a lot but it's definitely worth it considering that even if something goes wrong with that old console (I assume this is pre-Falcon?), all you have to do is sell the old power brick, buy an Arcade (since you'd already have the HDD, the cables, headset, etc.) and keep everything else.

I also recommend you get some sort of rechargeable solution for batteries. Some people use rechargeable batteries but the Duracell NiMH ones that I typically use didn't fit well when I slotted them in (they were a bit too thick) and it was hell to get them out. So I just got a Quick Charge Kit for $30 CDN.

I should also warn you to never buy a 360 HDD off ebay. I tried buying one online because I wanted to save money (they are expensive as hell) but I was sold a fake one once despite it being advertised as genuine. These fake HDDs sold online will no doubt guarantee a banhammer on Live. Go with the official M$ Starter Pack instead.

I also recommend buying the wireless controller new from a reputable source, even if it's pricey. I don't trust the $30 supposedly genuine OEM new ones being sold by DealExtreme. DX are not as reliable as people claim. They have sold me a fake before that was advertised as genuine. The stereotype that people have about HK merchants is not exactly unfounded. Anything goes over there.

Really it all depends on how much you are wanting to spend. You can find HDD and cables used from people that have bought new xbox's when theirs died or are looking to get rid of spare parts.

Controllers, as it has been said, best bet is buying new. They are a little on the expensive side, but its worth it to know you have a good controller. If you don't mind wired controllers, get those, they are a little cheaper, but if you want wireless, you can buy the packs that come with the controller, rechargeable pack and usb charger.

Like they said, you get the stuff, and if down the road you have to get a new xbox, you can buy an arcade and be set. You can use the memory card but don't plan on having songs or video's on it, just game saves. And even then you might run out quick depending on how many games you play.

Do a little digging, you can find good deals either on here, craigslist, or e-bay. Just be sure and do whatever you can to make sure the seller is reputable.

The stuff is expensive, so scammers like to use these products to get people, as everyone is looking for a deal instead of paying full price.
