Xbox 2 Red Rings sometimes

So this morning I woke up to play my xbox got into a game of Halo 3 online and then I got 2 red rings of death 10 seconds into the game. My fans got really loud and I touched the side oddly enough to find that the side was not hot at all. I played it this afternoon for two hours with the fans louder then usual. I have all the things needed to do the x-clamp fix, but is it really necessary or should I just wait for my xbox to cool down. I even have a whisper fan in my x box so it's not like it's not getting enough air.

If the warranty isn't shot, I would send it back to MS and let them fix it. Otherwise you will need to go ahead and do the x-clamp fix. Put some Arctic Silver 5 on there and you should be running cool.

I think I will fix it myself because it does have the extra heat sink even though I do have warranty stickers. I found this really complex guide could you tell me if it is necessary. http://xbox-experts.com

yeah, i think the whisper fan would void the warranty
