Ok so I have 2 360's, one modded, the other perfectly legit. Now I tried pot calibrating my modded one and i totally screwed it up, not realising how far I'd turned the little nob and trying it, now I have a burnt laser. My friend can sell me his RRoD'd 360 for 50 euro, so in total I'd have 3 360's, and only one totally working. Now here's my plan.
I switch the drives in the 360's, so that I now have 2 fully working 360's, and one with RRoD and a faulty DVD drive, and I send it to MS saying it has RRod, but then I need an excuse for them to switch my DVD drive, which I don't have, apart from playing the role of oblivious, and saying I also have an error with my DVD drive, and hopefully get it changed. So here are my questions.
1. Are there any alternatives?
2. If so, is it worth doing the alternative/s or my method
3. Will my method work (considering my DVD drive is a hitachi from 2005 and the one from the RRoD one is from 2008)
P.S. I know how to remove the warranty stickers and so on.

What type of drive was the one your burnt the laser? You should be able to just replace the laser for cheap or buy a BenQ drive and spoof your key and info to it. Then fix the RRoD and you'll have 3 working 360s.

did you save the original drive key from the rrod system before you flashed that drive into the other system. if not then fixing it yourself is out of the question.

you said you took the drive out and put it in another unit. if you didnt get the key from that drive before flashing over it then the key is lost

Why is that important though? All I need to do is switch it with the one in the RRoD 360 and have it changed, I have no intentions on using it :p

it isnt important if you dont plan on fixing that rrod unit and using it again. if you did want to fix it and use again then you would need it

If I say I got a disk error will they look at it and then compremise my plan? And if they do see its all illegal and modded, yet the warranty sticker was fine, will it still get fixed?

I had a RRoD Elite with a Hitachi 79. I believe MS replaced the motherboard (still kept it both 90nm CPU/GPU), and they replaced the 79 with a Lite-ON. They put it all back into my original case.
