alright, your using tmpge to convert ur files im guessing. tmpge cannot process compressed audio so what you'll have to do is convert the audio in your source to wav, VirtualDub is able to do this, but the easiest way ive found to convert your audio to wav is to use a program like avi2vd(dont use it to create vcds cause the end product is balls) but it has(ive found) the most advanced audio converter to date

heres the link:
http://encoderx.co.uk/info/avi2vcd.html

so download the program and you will find decompressor.exe, thats your bitch

it will create a whole new file video included but the audio will now be in wav format, you shouldnt have any problems with tmpge now, just load it up

cheers m8

Could also be AC3 sound. Really, it could be a great multitude of things... Try downloading AVICodec from the software section and analyzing your .AVI and telling us what the audio stream is.

IMO the best program for finding out what audio your file uses is 'g-spot codec information' it not only tells you that but a hell of alot more, all in all a very powerful little proggy

http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html

also your in luck if your source is AC3 you wont have to convert it to wav at all if you install AC3 acm decompressor this great prog allows the encoding of videos with AC3 straight from tmpge (no conversion of audio to wav is needed)

enjoy and good luck
