DVD movie skips on fat PS2

I have a v7 PS2 console with a Matrix Infinity modchip and BIOS v1.91. I am having problems playing DVD movies, original or backed up. I can play all my games just fine, but when I play a movie, it skips a lot. It doesn't fail, but it stutters and it's very annoying. I opened up the console and dusted it with compressed air but it didn't change much. Any other suggestions? My X360 is out of order so this is my only DVD player connected to my TV so I'd like to get it working properly. Thanks.

Did you clean the laser with "rubbing alcohol and a q-tip"
Clean in a circular motion gently but firmly for about 30 secs.
Then using dry end , dry in same manner for about 6-8 secs.

Movies are harder on the laser, than games are.

Are you using sms player to watch the movies?

SMS? Is that homebrew? I'm just using the normal PS2 DVD player. I gotta go buy some alcohol then. Thanks for the tip.

Ok I figured you probably were using the DVD player.

SMS is "PS2 Simple Media System" - yes its homebrew.

I use it to play movies off a USB drive or my computer.

There is a tutorial on it here

But hopefully just cleaning your laser will help.
