i burn all my media on aone discs,but ive noticed when playing games from disc the drive seems to grind when reading is this normal when installed on hdrive it is silent,
will changing the media to say vertabin discs make it any quieter,
i have a jasper pro.

its normal. there is a ribber foot/pad that pusheds on the disc and when they get a little dust on them they just start to lose their grip and causes to slip and sound like that. i dont think it causes anything but an annoying sound but if you want to fix it you would need to take drive out of 360 and take the cover off it and clean the rubber pad with some rubbing alchohol.
a drive that gets stuck and wont open is caused by the same thing but on the rubber band that is on the pulleys getting dirty, most common on samsungs from my experience

that was probably my girlfriend. i havent played cod4 in a while but when i came home from work there she was RUINING MY STATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i told her from now on the only game she cant play is halo 3 so if you see me on that it is really me haha

my drive does the same, i took it apart and cleaned it, and still have the problem, i have to get a new drive. been doing it for months now, and it is having alot of trouble reading my games.

mine kept grinding when slowing down (ms28) because the disc was slipping when slowing down so every exit to dashboard brrrrrrrrrrgh....
and it was getting worse so i replaced it with a benq vad6038 which is doing a great job and is a bit quieter.
