I currently own a 4.0u Virgin wii and tomorrow I'm going to trade wiis with my friend because bannerbomb and bootmii don't seem to be coming out for a while.
Anyway, he has a 3.1u wii, my question like the subject says is how do i update a 3.1u wii to 3.2u so i can use the twilight hack and install the homebrew channel?

You should be able to install HBC with firmware v3.1. After soft modding it, you can then up/down-grade to other versions. Take a look at this guide:
