Well, here's the thing...
For some reason, my PSP has some weird problems going on with it:
1. The volume buttons aren't working properly. The + volume button works fine, but the - one won't work at all. Once I press it, the bar that shows how high/low the volume is shows up, but it won't go down one bit.
2. Whenever I press the mute button, the PSP screen just goes completely black. I have to keep pressing the home button in order for it to turn the screen back on, but everything is still screwy.
3. Sometimes, whenever I'm playing games for a while or just leaving the PSP on, the brightness starts to change levels by itself. For example, I'm not even touching anything, and out of nowhere, the brightness levels go 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. in a matter of seconds. After all this, the screen just goes black again.
I tried almost everything, and I'm on the verge of just giving up! I tried doing the recovery mode, but that didn't work either. Downgrading the FW didn't have any effect at all. I even tried opening the PSP up (yes, that means I had to remove the warranty sticker, so please don't tell me to send it to Sony), checked all the buttons, and everything was fine.
My thought on how this happened: One day, I was playing the Patapon ISO on the PSP, and at a certain point, the game froze, and after a few seconds, the PSP turned itself off completely. I had just left it off and hadn't touched it for maybe a week tops, and when I came back to play it, I noticed these problems started to occur.
So please, if anyone has had this problem and knows how to fix it, or maybe has even just a thought on how to, I would really like to know.
Thank you!

Sounds like the button panel, under the buttons is a circuit foil. You need to open the PSP and remove this foil, leave it on and see if the brightness changes on its own. If it doesnt then you can replace this foil for $4

yea and if its not the hardware that is the problem it could be the software because sometimes when the mobo is flashed complications happen
