So I had a 360 with 3 red rings that I preformed the x clamp fix on, applied new thermal paste and switched out the clamps for screws and washers, and I got a working box. Then 2nd boot up was 3 rings again, then the next several boots were working. Just occasional red ring. I decided to do the fan shroud mod and flash the drive while I had it open, but while flashing, it booted up into red rings rather than green. Now it seems to be stuck back on the 3 red rings. I've tried loosening and tightening the heatsink screws, but it remains stubbornly on 3 red rings with error code 0102, which I see is a general fault in the 'digital backbone'.
So I'm thinking about redoing the x clamp fix, and maybe adding in the penny fix to the ram as well.
Having it work for several boots, then go back to red ring makes me think there is a way to salvage the box, but after reading through these and other forums for the past few weeks, I thought I would ask for any advice or suggestions, or hear if there's something I'm overlooking. Thanks for the help.
not sure which method you went with, but the "ultimate x clamp fix" seems to have longer lasting results. there's a link on a similar thread on the front page or you can google it.
I did what I suppose is the 'x clamp fix classic' where I removed the x clamps, replaced with m5 screws with a nylon and metal washer on either side of the motherboard, and heated the gpu for 15min while the cpu was being cooled by the fans.
