Say i theoretically wanted to sell a service online (say craigslist) to flash xbox 360's in exchange for a monetary compensation. Would that be illegal (Kentucky, US)? If it is illegal does anyone know of a time that police have cracked down on it?

I advertise on craigs list for modding but i dont just come right out and say modding i advertise as xbox 360 repairs and havks and focus the ad on that rrod, disc errors, e74 things like that then i also add in that i can flash your system to play backup copies of games you already own something that doesnts sound totally illegal ive been doing it for almost 1 year and run my same ad once a week never heard of anyone getting busted off craigslist for it just use descretion when talking to potential customers

Im not 100% but i want to say hacking the firmware on a xbox360 is not illegal, but if you supply a copy of a game, that would be illegal. modding a piece of hardware is never considered illegal, its like saying if you overclock your pc the cops will come a knocking, it just voids the warrenty. just don't get cought selling games

bingo. it's not illegal to modify a console of any kind. it is illegal to supply or point people in the right direction for pirated games.

even if it is illegal you would have to be moving a lot of consoles or software for them to want to target you. it is not worth the money it costs to prosecute only one guy for modding his personal or a few consoles. it makes more sense for them to go after people reproducing and distributing their software on a large scale or the people directly responsible for the creation of such things.

There are a ton of people who advertise on CL for modding, i doubt it is illegal. Some of those idiots even say they'll include 5 games and so on, i'd post in your ad that you do not supply or sell backups because its illegal.
