I have 200+ small avi files that I need to recode for use on the ps3. Some say "unsupported data", using Gspot, I see these files were encoded with an older xvid codec that ps3 doesn't recognize. I wish to recode them with more recent codecs, so I can play them directly from the ps3 without having to stream them.

Others, however will play fine, but no sound, or with garbled, somewhat robotic sounds, also a problem.

I did use the 'search' function, but I am getting way to many results to scan through, some from 2005 and up.

Basically I'm looking for the most recent option to do this, preferably retaining the quality of the original vid file. thanx

Thanks for responding Elliot, I think you meant ps3video 9? I tried that @ a week ago, not only is it slow as hell, but half of the conversions dont even work. Which is strange, they will play on the pc, but still no ps3. I do however have the most recent k-lite pack installed, so my pc will play almost anything.

I read elsewhere of people recoding with Nero, but I cant figure it out, found only some guides of DVD recoding.

Thanks man. I'm gonna try any-video converter. I'll post back with my results (fingers crossed). I wonder why theres a pspvideo and ps3video? One would assume they do the same thing? Oh well, regardless, something will work. Thanks again Elliot. :)

you can also try avidemux, if avidemux can open your file it can convert it for you. On my amd dualcore 4800, it can convert a 2 hour movie in less than 40 minutes, the output is similar to the input.
