I have been trying to get my wii to play backups for about 2.5 months now. I wanted to do the softmod, but my GF updated to v4.0 the day it came out. At that point I decided to get a wiiclip 2. I have that in and I got the proper dvd drive to read the discs. I have followed the guides but I am still struggling.
I have the dvd drive in a usb enclosure. I can dump a game onto my computer in about 2.5hrs. The isos are the correct size every time. I run brickblocker (just in case). My problem is with burning the iso. I use imgburn, no disk verify, and I have tried every speed from 1x to 16x and everything in between. I have tried both TDK (-R) and Verbatim (+R) as well as some cheapo disks I had. I have also tried 4 different burners.
I can NEVER get one to work consistently. Every now and then, if I sit there and feed a disk in and out enough times, it will boot. But this is rare. Even if I get a disk to work, it might never work again. I typically get a black screen that says I need to eject the disk and restart the wii.
I am super frustrated. At this point I have invested over $100 into this thing (between the wiikey, dvd drive, usb enclosure, and disks). I just saw that there are now softmods for the v4.0. I think I will try that tonight. Does anyone have any suggestions what I should try next????
Have you tried another source for your game ISO's? Your assuming that the whole thing is failing on burn but that might not be the case. Especially if you have tried as hard as you say to switch things up on that area. Just because your image is the correct size doesn't mean something hasn't failed along the way.
2.5 hours is a long time to extract and it takes so little to flub it all up. The slightest bump, the smallest CPU load dip, all kinds of things can go wrong in dumping. Have you tried moving the drive your using internally? USB tends to fail and cause more problems in my experience than a direct connection.
The easiest way to find out if it is a dumping issue is to get a hold of a backup you know is working and try it. I am no wii expect by any stretch of the imagination, but given my experience with other consoles dumping is almost always more problem laden than burning.
the wiiclip isnt reliable as if it was solder on in my opinion. As for 4.0 there are ways around it now. download the 4.0 softmod to get the right verifications etc cios. I cant give you a link just google search it.
Well, I think I have it now. I found a nice tutorial on wiihacks and am now rocking the USB loader. I just happened to have a spare USB external drive laying around. That is super nifty!
I started to get upset with that because the first game I tried was Redsteel. It dumped to the drive fine, but would freeze the second I tried to load it. After trying a couple other games that worked fine, I am now satisfied.
Does anyone know why Redsteel didn't work? I have only tried 2 other games, so I don't yet know how well it works. I am running cIOSv9 and usbloader 1.5.
Redsteel isn't compatible with USB Loader. There is a hand full of games that are not compatible.
If you want to get Redsteel to work then try doing the below.
Go HERE and download IOS Patcher. Drag the Redsteel ISO into the IOS Patcher.exe file and change the IOS to 249 when it asks what IOS to change the ISO to. After you do that you can burn the ISO to blank media.
Now install WiiGator and try booting the backup Redsteel game with WiiGator. You can get WiiGator in my guide HERE follow the guide on how to install it.
If the game boots then you have an issue with your Modchip (I have never heard of a wiiclip 2 I am guessing you have a Wiikey 2 connected to a WiiClip).
If it doesn't boot then take the WiiClip out of the Wii and try using the backup launcher again without the Modchip/WiiClip installed).
Are you sure you have the WiiKey2 and WiiClip soldered properly to each other? What chipset is your DVD Drive?
I have a D2E drive and it is actually a solderless wiikey2 that I installed (maybe I am wrong to call it a wiiclip, but it just presses on).
I will play with it some more tonight and this weekend and report back if I have any issues. I will have to play with getting ISO's that I dumped previously onto my usbloader drive. Hopefully they work :)
