PSP Slim won't detect a UMD

I'm looking at buying a PSP Slim. Its a great deal for the condition its in ($50) and everything works perfectly. Except the UMD slot.

When I put a UMD in there, it does not even attempt to load it. I tried pressing on the sensor that is triggered when the door is closed. The laser did not even light up. I assume that it is the sensor itself, but I may be wrong. What is your advice? If the sensor is bad, can I replace it?

sure, why wouldn't you be able to replace it? just try and find parts on ebay or craigslist, might be easier just to get the whole umd drive just to make sure you fix the problem if it isn't just the sensor.

though if you end up modding your psp the only thing umd drive is needed for is to play umd videos from your memory stick other then that its a good place to mod in a photofast adapter for 32gb of space.
