Hello everybody, I recently bought a Samsung SH-D162B kreon drive from ebay. It is a sata drive, and I only have pata connections, so I bought a pata to sata adapter. It works fine because the drive opens/closes, but my pc won't recognize the samsung drive at all. I installed it, and my pc just wont detect it at all. I don't know if the drive even has the kreon firmware. I can't set the drive to slave because there is no option on the drive to do that. I'm using the slave part of the cable, and the main part is connected to my burner. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Ok you obviously haven't searched for too long, because the jumpers on the back of the drive make it so you can set the drive to slave! Just because you are using the Slave end of a Cable, doesn't mean that the drive is in Slave. I don't know anything about SATA to PATA adapters, and just because it can open/close, doesn't mean that it works, because that's just the power to the drive. You might need to get a SATA PCI Card installed in your system, and use that instead of this SATA to PATA adapter!

Thanks for the reply, I'm looking at the dvd drive right now, and it has NO jumpers whatsoever, it only has the normal connections. I tried connecting it to the master cable and it still won't work, I don't know what's going on.

Ok, you need to get a PCI SATA Card. Go to Newegg.com, and search for SATA VIA 6421. It's a great card, and really cheap in cost!

Ok, I'll get that card then. This is what I bought:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Slim-IDE-PATA-to-SAT...3DLVI%26ps%3D54

Does that work for what I want, or did I buy it mistakenly? Thanks.

I have the same thing you bought, tried to attach a Sata drive to an IDE motherboard, it won't work either, I hear the drive spin but that's about it. These addapters are junk.
Just get a card like this one here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/4Port-PCI-Combo-SATA...93%3A1|294%3A50
Works like a charm and you can also flash your Xbox with it.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Sata drives dont run as a master or slave, it runs as an individual drive, no need to change any settings or anything, have you installed any drivers for your pata to sata? Also as above via 6421 pci card is a great recommendation, mine works perfect, look on ebay!

Thanks for the replies everybody, sn0wman1, are you referring to the adapter? did I install drivers for that? if so, I did not, because there are none, at least that's what the ebay page says, just plug n play. But like I said, my pc wont recognize it by just "Plugging n Playing". So I guess I'll buy that card, which one though, the 6421 or the one Eisherz recommended? I don't want to buy another one that won't work for my purposes. Thank You.

Sorry, left something out..
Do you guys mean this 6421 card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124011 ??
It has pretty bad reviews, but as long as it will work, can I trust it?

Then the other card Eisherz recommended was this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/4Port-PCI-Combo-SATA...:1|293:1|294:50
How about this one, pretty inexpensive, which one of these two do I get? Thanks.

The one Eisherz posted is a 6421 chipset, so that one will work! Only reason the one on newegg got bad reviews was probably because of who it was made by! My VIA cost my around $20 and that was 2 years ago...

Hi sorry for late reply, the 6421 comes with drivers and wont recognise in windows unless you install them, thats why i asked if you had to install any for the card you already have, but i would go ahead and by the via 6421, as for connection you will need a sata cable which plugs into one of the small sata ports on the card, very easy to do, i got my card off ebay for 2£ inc p/p, was very cheap and i also got 2 cables for 99p off ebay!

You'll also need something like this here for power supply:
http://cgi.ebay.com/4-Pin-MALE-IDE-TO-Se...93%3A1|294%3A50

@sn0wman1 what he has, isn't a card, it is an addapter you plug into the harddrive (or drive in his case) (not the mainboard) so it looks like a normal IDE harddrive (drive).

Okay then, just to recap, I need to buy that 6421 card from ebay, as well as the power supply Eisherz linked me, and a sata cable that connects from the small sata port on the back to my sata drive, and that should do it? So basically that sata to pata adapter was a waste of money, I guess you need drivers for everything nowadays. Thanks a lot for everything guys.

On the pci card you wil have 2 sata ports, use the one on the inside of pc not the outside, mine does not work from outside one!!

I don't think it's a problem with the drivers, I think the problem is that these addapters are crap.

hi again, I recently got the card and the power cable through ebay, took long enough. I installed it and everything went great, but now I am trying to install the SH-D163B_SB01_KREON_V100 firmware, but when I launch sfdnwin.exe and load the bin file, it gives me an error saying the firmware is not compatible with the selected drive. contact your system manufacturer....for this drive. I don't know what's going on, I read somewhere that I probably need to install the original and most recent Samsung firmware, but I don't know where to find it. I went to the samsung website and could not find my drive and I can's use xbins because it won't work with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. thanks.

Sorry for double post:
In the above post you say you have the SH-D163B but Your thread title is SH-D162B so it is going to say your drive is not compatible. You need to get the right firmware for it to even respond. I have it here waiting for you if you pm me your email!
Tell me which one it is,D163B SH-D162D or SH-D162C There isnt a SH-D162B

yea.. I'm pretty sure it is a D162B though, I'm so close and this is stopping me. When I put the game in the drive, it reads it like a movie. I just need the Kreon firmware, but first I need the original, then install the 163B firmware and that should work, according to a message I read in another forum.

Oh wow. All for nothing. A Samsung SH-D162B is no kreon drive. The four Kreon drives are Samsung SH-D162C, SH-D162D, SH-D163A and SH-D163B.
So if you really have a SH-D162B you are pretty much screwed.

that's what I don't understand, I googled around a lot and found many people saying it IS possible, including this post:
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/index.php/t669435.html
But it doesn't really say exactly how to get the proper firmware, how can I solve this? thanks.
