I have Free mcboot 1.8.. Note: I understand external usb isnt such a great option. but at the moment.. Its hard for me to find a network adapter cheaper than 50+ shipping..

I've been searching for over 1hr.. Most guides that talk about usbadvance assume your using slim. and a mod chip. I however got softmod free mcboot 1.8.. I would like to run homebrew + my own backups using an external harddrive.. my ps2 is fat, 50001. I'm looking for the lastest up2date version of usbadvance.. since only copy I found was made in 2005.. Its hard for me to believe they haven't updated it.. so basically I want to run usbadvance using my memory/cd/whatever to run backups and homebrew(did I repeat.. sorry if I did..) So a link to a guide or suggestions. would be nice

Ok so what i figured out is.. running the usbadvance elf. and using a guid from sksapps forum.. I formated the drive. and backup'd up the game following the steps.. But when i try to launch the game it fails.. black screen.. I;ve read something about macrovision. but I dont have a modchip. and i looked in mcboot's config.. no luck there..

Found it had notthing to do with macrovision.. more like.. unsupported game.. I'm geting a network adapter soon..

Yes a Network adaptor is the best and use an IDE hdd.

Much better compatibility.

Have you checked Ebay for the Network adaptor or divineo.
