I am a very new person to DVD and would appreciate any expericence on external units, I have a tower and Laptop and would like one unit cover both, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated also any experience good or bad of the hardware.

Hi brobson, Plextor, Pioneer and Sony are 3 good choices to check out. I don't have models for the external units but you can just do a search for them. One thing to check on your computers, make sure you have USB 2 ports if this is how you are going to use the burner drive. USB 1 doesn't have a fast enough data transfer for dvd burning.
