My son just picked up a ps2 at a yard sale and am looking for some advise on what mod chip to purchase.
I am pretty set on only buying from one shop so it limits me i think to about 6 options
PS2 Flip Top Cover V12-V16
PS2 Flip Top Cover V4-V10 Memor32 Advanced USB PS2 Memory Card
Matrix Infinity PS2 Modchip Duo 3 Ultra
The ps2 is a slim so not sure if that limits me or not.
I would like some input on those flip tops that you have to swap and maybe some help to better understand. I think you pop it in, boot up, than eject and add game ????
I know there is tons of pro's here and appreciate anyones advise.
I have done a few wii's in the past so not against soldering, but If I can avoid it with the same results that would be cool also.
If you choose a modchip and your PS2 is a slim, you won't need to purchase the fliptop.
Modchip is always best choice, I would go with the Duo3 Ultra or the Matrix.
If you have the FAT PS2 - then modchip is still best choice.
The memor32 is good also as I have used that, but it doesn't work the best on all PS2. What most people end up doing is buying the memor32, then using it too install fmcb 1.8 to the memor32 or another memory card.
Having a fliptop is best choice if you go the memor32 route, so that you can swap discs easily.
There are many topics in this forum on memor32 or fmcb 1.8 that could help you if you want to research it a bit.

Thanks for the response, I have the slim soo, just a fwe more questions if I may. What are the 2 biggest differences in the cards you suggested. There is a big price difference as the Duo3 Ultra is pretty much half the price. Also is there a guide on here to solder it if I should go that route?
Next is there any advantage of a chip over the memor32? its about the same price as the magic, but nothing to install might be a good thing. As long as it will do what a chip would do I could live with that
Its my sons system and he is only 7 though, so if it is complicated than that would also be something I need to look into.
edit: found a diagram of the install, looks a but tough with tiny wires, leaning back towards the memor32, so I guess main question is , will it do the same as a chip and is it fairly durable?
Modchips can be difficult too install if your not very good at soldering etc.
Best to have someone install it for you, if you go that route.
The memor32 works great on my V14 PS2. I have had no issues with it.
But I also installed fmcb 1.8 on a memory card as I like the features of it better.
- Can load games directly that have been patched
- Can load apps (elf files) directly from Sony Browser
- Can load PS1 games by using uLe and an Original PS1 game on a PS2 slim
- More games are compatible with ESR r9b than memento, yet I found some games worked with memor32 that wouldn't work with esr.
You would have to do a forum search on "memor32" or "free mcboot" or check my profile.
The memor32 is quite easy to use as long you use firmware 1.2 and patch the games.
Load game up and it will launch automatically as long as its compatible.

Hope some of that helps in your decision.
yup its helping, im not bad at soldering, ive done a ton of it in my life so far. looks like im gonna have to read up a bit more on evertyhing else too , but think ill start witht he memor32.
i see alot using the fmbc, i have a memory card, b ut no clue how to get whqt i need onto it.gonna do some more reading i think
thanks for your suggestions.
No problem. Yes it does require a bit of reading to know what each method offers.
This guide here on the "official memor32" forum explains how to install fmcb 1.8 on a memory card using your memor32, or to install to the memor32 if you wish.
Memor32 guide - this guide explains how to set up and use your memor32.
But just be aware the memor32 can't do everything shown in some pictures like in Chapter 3. The memor32 does not have a menu like that. The guide was made in the hopes of new firmware, but that has never happened, and is very unlikely that it will ever get new firmware.
